Patronymies and patronymics: the relationship between the Iliad’s minor warriors and their ancestors

Authors

Iliad’s minor warriors, onomastics, Homer, patronymy

Abstract

This paper aims to demonstrate the relationships that exist between the names of the Iliad’s minor warriors (that is, those who appear little in the poem, often being mentioned only once, usually at the moment of their death) and those of their ancestors; a relationship that can be obtained through the meanings of the names, through their spelling, or through information that the poem presents about the combatants and their ancestors.
